Is my mom being meddlesome or too much about this matter?

I got chosen to be a bridesmaid and my boyfriend got chosen to be a groomsman in an upcoming wedding in June.
I rented a bridesmaid gown for the event…. I was told by the store owner that I’m responsible to go pick it up myself. It’s in the west end of the city and it is a bit of a ghetto area with strip clubs around…. but I do know how to get there myself.

My mom was insisting that my boyfriend should come pick up the dress with me just because he’s my boyfriend, but he can’t because he works on Saturday mornings till at least 12pm

My mom is making a big deal that my boyfriend can’t come with me and she’s nagging me to get a friend and then is insisting to have their number so she can make sure I’m not going alone to pick up my dress that day…

my boyfriend got annoyed with my mom because my dress isn’t his responsibility- the ladies go themselves for their dresses just like the way the guys go for their suits, secondly if he wasn’t working he would’ve come with me.

is my mom making a big deal out of this and being meddlesome and trying to create a fight? Or does she have a point?

My mom should understand my boyfriend is working and she can’t label him as unsupportive just because he can’t make it this one time….. safety wise tho she may be right?

What does it have to do with your mom? Are you under 18? Is it her wedding? Do you need a chaperone because the shop isn’t in a safe place?


Just go get the dress, kiddo. If you’re not supposed to go alone, take one of the other girls with you and make it a fun girl’s afternoon.

I’m very well over 18 and know how to get there myself. And it’s my friends wedding. Ya I can get a friend to come with me

She does have a point. She's just looking out for your safety. If your boyfriend has to work, she should understand. As long as someone goes with you she should be fine with that.

maybe she knows something you don't? it wouldn't hurt to bring a guy friend unless you have a conceal and carry

maybe she heard about something in the news or from a friend? some outlet that you haven't paid attention to. she's looking out for you. maybe you don't have great communication, but i think you should listen.

I asked my mom about shipping the dress to my house then she complains about the money even tho she’s making a big deal about my safety

yeah. this is about your safety. i don't know where you live but she seems concerned. i'd hate to not heed that warning and you end up in a situation you can't handle. call her overbearing if you want, but maybe she's right?

Exactly my point here! My money plus I’m an adult and secondly my boyfriend isn’t responsible for the dress plus he works on Saturdays. I’m 34 already

This other time she kept drilling him about living together later on if we ever get married and my boyfriend obviously wants us to have our own place.
I had told my mom not to say anything about living arrangements but she still opened up her mouth
