Is it my fault for laughing at a meme sent by my boyfriend that was supposed to be "romantic"?

My boyfriend sent me a meme where a man and a woman get married and remain so till their death. After death, their souls ask each other out. My boyfriend sent me this and wrote "Us fr". I thought it was cheeky so I laughed. It wasn't a boisterous laugh, it was just a normal chuckle. Then we moved on, and I genuinely didn't see it coming when he said that " How could you laugh when I sent something romantic. You always do this". I told him he's overreacting but he said that his feelings were completely valid. Is it my fault for laughing?

Personally I think it’s funny. I don’t think a meme qualifies as romantic at all. Romantic is flowers, cards, date nights, massages, sweet nothings, and nights together holding hands and doing things by candlelight.


Memes are just memes. I think he’s nice that he cares about sending you random little gestures to show he’s thinking about you but in the end - it’s still just a meme.

Since he said you always do this it seems like he thinks you generally don't respond to romantic things he does. like my girlfriend would text Awww with hearts and crying emoji or something like that if I'd send her this. I'm not saying there's a right and wrong way to respond but your boyfriend seems to want more of a response when he tries to love you.

The meme was pretty clearly supposed to be funny and not romantic, so I'm more on your side. But I will say that it seems like his issue is more that you have a pattern of doing this stuff, than it is that you did it this one time.
