I don't date but if I was forced to then it would have to be a person that I can communicate with.
I am fluent in 3 languages and have basic knowledge of 2 more. It would be astonishing if we would not be able to communicate in a way or another. I find it is important to be able to hold a conversation with your partner otherwise, what's the purpose to be in a relationship in the first place anyway?
If you cannot communicate, then the relation is doomed because that is how misunderstandings occur and then problems arise.
I know a couple who didn't speak the same language and they learned and got married.
That is rather the exception but if it worked out, then good for them.
Learning a language is hard but love will motivate them of course. Any people struggle with communication, and that is more due to incompetence which spans across all domains.
Competence > the average outcomes. Competence defies the average.
Nope never, I’ve dated girls whose first language is not English, however they said speak English.
a critical part of a relationship is that of communication, those little trivial misunderstandings can become full on arguments for a couple speaking the same language mainly due to poor communication
With a couple not able to communicate in the same language it’s even more likely to result in an argument, any relationship with arguments occurring for silly reasons is doomed to fail.
As technology improves there will be a time where we have conversational speed translations, at present they are just a little slow and also make some strange mistakes and don’t manage accents very well or regional expressions.
Not exclusively, both were fluent English speakers as well as respectively Polish and French
