So I texted a girl from my history course asking if she'd be up for a date (we've been talking daily for almost a year), and we've gotten close.
I sent her a text asking if she'd want to have a dinner together as a date night, and if not, that I could not be friends with her. She responded with asking to have a phone call, and then asking to meet up in person that night. At no point did she say yes or no, but instead asked to meet up in 30ish minutes.
I took this to be a long-winded rejection, so I let her know that text is less embarrassing, and that there wasn't really a need to draw this out as I wouldn't be offended at all with it being a "no". Should I have met up with her? I know it's more "formal", but I don't understand why she couldn't just say no over text.

What Girls Said
Maybe it wasn't a no and she wanted to talk through her feelings with you or hear yours. Maybe she didn't know how she felt and wanted to gauge how she felt being around you. Or maybe you were right and she was going to let you down easy. Only she's going to know and you let your fear of rejection prevent you from finding out.
Gotcha; it seemed vague and I felt bad for not wanting to go meet in person that quickly, but as you say my fear may have sabotaged me this time. Live and ya learn, as they say :(
