Would you date (not necessarily marry) someone who's still living at home?

Question

Still living with their parents, because they can (not that they want to be, but, that they still can, and don't make enough to live on their own, yet)

I don't want marriage, but I do want to date and have a girlfriend, I also don't want kids. But, I do still live at home, with my parents.

Would you date me, especially since i dont want marriage or kids

I wouldn't date someone who wasn't interested in marriage and kids. Don't take that wrong, everyone has their preferences. I just know I personally don't want to be in limbo about where the relationship is going. It's too unstable and open-ended for me, especially after age 30. I do understand that a relationship might not work out with me, but for a guy to not have marriage as a future goal with someone is a dealbreaker.

Ten years ago, if someone was living at home with their parents, I would have said no way. But things are very different now, and a basic need like personal housing is fast becoming a luxury. It is often sensible to live at home while working toward independence. The key is, "What is the guy doing to work toward independence and self-sufficiency?" "What's the plan?" "Where do you see yourself in ten years?" (kidding on that last one; I hate that question). I'm a pretty driven person, and I would want to know that the person I was dating was going somewhere with their life, even if it's fairly simple and straightforward. Just my perspective!

I don't see why people would have an issue with that. Especially since these days it's hard to even live by yourself without everything costing so much. Bills, food, rent, you name it. I mean, I live with my parents because I don't have the capability to live on my own right now. Still just a late flower.

So, I've moved out once with an ex for a couple of years. But when that ended, I've been with one of my parents ever since. It's insane thinking I should be living on my own when I don't make enough to do that comfortably. Rent and housing is ridiculous and I make okay money where I live. I'd be happy to move in with someone, but as long as I'm able to save money, I'll be with my Dad.

And, I wouldn't care if a potential partner lived with her parent (s). You gotta do what you gotta do to survive. Trust me, living with your parents isn't always a picnic. I'm certain more people would move out if it was cheaper-- not everyone wants to be babied their whole adult life. Times just suck.

Yes, the way the world is today , i feel it’s smart to live with family until you can get on your own 2 feet , Now if she had no ambition and was just mooching off of her parents’ and wasn’t working whatsoever than I probably wouldn’t date her , but if she was working and trying to get on her own 2 feet , I would be fine with it

I recommend you move out man.

I know it's hard and it's tempting to stay.

But the second you start relying only on yourself you will change as a person.

If you struggle to get dates now it will feel like a distant memory.

Your character changes will make you more attractive to women.

And you can stay within q reasonable distance to your parents so that you see them as often as you like.

But adults thrive when they have autonomy not codependence

Yes. I don’t want kids, either 😊. Marriage is preferable, but perhaps I could remain in a committed relationship, unmarried. I live at home, too, for the same reasons. So, if it wouldn’t bother me, there’ll be some others that won’t mind, either.

There are plenty of people who are adults and even college graduates that are still living with their parents. The cost of housing is very high and the economy is in the tank and good paying jobs are very scarce.

I was living with my mother when I got married because I was saving up for a down payment on a house.

I would not have a remote problem with that , and in my 20s , I dated and went out with multiple girls who lived at home , I admire it , especially if you are using the money well , so good for you.

Nah, I'd be too worried you wouldn't know how to do anything and expect me to do everything. That's my main worry. And definitely something I would be observant about.

Well I want marriage and kids but I also live at home still with my parents because I have epilepsy and also because it’s quite expensive in Australia. I’m just saving up. I am working full time though at least.

Yes. Where I live it is common for adult children to live with parents. They help with the bills, and do not have to pay the extravagant rents (sometimes $3K+ for a 500 sq ft studio).
