Why do guys I date get so upset by this?

So when I am dating someone (not currently but when I AM) and we would cuddle I do not tend to smile big or smile with teeth or anything… this is cause I’m relaxing and my relaxed face does not have a smile to it…. But my exes thought I didn’t like when they rubbed my hair , etc cause I didn’t smile

what can I do to change that and why are they so upset by this or guys upset by this
