How do you feel about dating a young guy and you found out he wore a wig from hairloss?

Lost my hair to an uncommon type of alopecia as a teen. Shaved what’s left since. Now 26. I pull off bald well but now developed a type of eczema that affects the scalp-you know which is bald. This can take months to settle down. So it’s either shaved scalp with fiery red patches OR a wig.

I began wearing full male wigs and honestly they look amazing, one is about $500 and lasts 6-12 months. I must stress these look very real. I often see people claim ‘all wigs look fake’ but you only notice the bad ones. Decent quality ones are great.

Anyway met many other men and women who all wear them as well through the hair dresser who supplies them and am finding it’s really common even for guys. I’m just curious how women will view it dating. I wouldn’t hide it at all and would share by the 2nd or 3rd date so only a couple weeks into talking to someone. Honestly I view them as no different than makeup or extensions etc.

AGAIN I MUST STRESS I DONT HIDE THE FACT I WEAR THEM. I honestly just kind of like having styles beyond just shaved again.

It might surprise me at first but I would still be attracted to him/date him etc, a wig isn’t an issue

It would turn me off moreso from the hairloss than the wig

“Found Out”? I love how guys give girls SUCH a hard time about a million different things and then can’t be honest about minor superficial things like their hair or weight. What level of desperation do you hit when you think it’s OK for a girl to just “FIND OUT” wtf is wrong with you? It’s never really just about the hair or the extra pounds … it’s usually about having a soft ego.


Bald can be very attractive with the correct style and maintenance — pick up a guy’s magazine once in a while.

Hey, I think I must have really hit a nerve with you. I’m a guy who really cares about my appearance just like I do care how my partner looks. There’s no cure or treatment for hairloss and wigs are very realistic in today’s world and affordable.

If you read my comment you’d know I would share within a few dates-you seem to think I’d wait years etc. I understand many women do date bald men but at 26 and only dating women 24-28 it’s a harder story without hair. To me hair is a huge part of my self expression and style. If it’s not mine who cares? It looks real and suits the look I’m going for. I think you’re really stigmatizing it and putting words in my mouth-no it’s no different than makeup etc. but I think it’s great women wear that if it makes them feel pretty!

Might feel a bit put off if I'm honest, but I can't say I'd necessarily walk away or reject someone just because of that. Heck a guy I'm currently dating has spoken about trying to treat his own early-onset hair loss (he's able to do like topical medical treatments if I understand correctly rather than needing a wig though, so it's a slightly different situation.) If you're honest about it, then props to you and I'm sure you'll find someone, especially when it seems like you're really embracing it as a positive part of your life rather than something to hide or be.

Can I ask why you’d feel put off? Also did you vote?

I’m not arguing your stance just trying to understand more. Unfortunately treatments for hairloss are usually ineffective and only slow it. Never does it it stop it. Even transplants typically fail long term. The reality is we have no cure for hairloss.

Is it moreso the fact that the person would have no hair of their own? More that it’s the idea of a wig itself is odd to you? I would share a few dates in at most so I don’t think anyone would feel ‘lied’ to necessarily but let me know if you would.

Again not arguing here just trying to find the core of what would put you off about it to understand the situation better!

Nah it's legit just that one of the things I'm personally superficial about is a guy having nice hair. It's not even like a massive preference or a dealbreaker. It doesn't actually bother me with respect to the guy I'm seeing (emotional compatibility overrides most physical preferences in my opinion (though of course I also find him attractive in many other ways (eyes, body, smile, mannerisms, fashion sense, etc, I'm sure he'll find a way to rock the bald look one day if need be lol)) and I'm well aware that long term, any guy I end up with will likely experience the same thing (just like I'll age in various ways as well). Point being, it's just a "my personal brand of superficiality" thing and nothing more.

From the sound of it, you're going about speaking about it a good timeframe in my opinion. You don't want to dump your entire medical history first date lol, so a couple in is still well before someone can really say that "know" someone deeply (therefore I think it's hard to lie by omission except in specific circumstances).

(I didn't put a vote in because I feel like my answer had too many caveats, also I'm very glad you didn't take offense, I wanted to be transparent as possible, even though my answer was a bit superficial and even rude depending on how you felt about your situation. (So I'm sorry in that sense.))
