My LDR boyfriend forgot my birthday?

In a LDR relationship for 6+ months. My “ boyfriend “ has a lot of issues in his personal life ( pending divorce, custody battle ) but evidently I stuck with him.
I know he has a problem remembering dates , so I reminded him of my birthday two days before. Asked him if he has a reminder set up as well. Told him I don’t want anything but flowers will do. I didn’t want him to not wish me because this is my first birthday together and he’s my first boyfriend as well.
Yesterday was my birthday. I waited the whole day for a single wish. Whereas he proceeded to call me several times during the day and talked about every other thing but wish me. To top it off , he didn’t get me anything either.
I’m feeling very upset about it still. He insists that he had the reminder on the phone which didn’t alert him. This is all starting to sound like a big excuse.
If this is the start of how the rest of our life together gonna be, I don’t want it.
Should I break up with him?

LDR's are silly, so yes. Multiple reminders two days in advance is plenty. He probably lied about the alert, so also yes. Given what he's got going on, it was probably better to just not start "dating" until that was all over.

I guess that depends on how important this situation (your birthday) is. No one is perfect and we all do things that piss off our partners every now and then.

How long has the distance been a factor and when does it come to an end?

For the whole time we’ve been in the relationship which is 6 months. Hopefully will come to an end in two years.

It means a lot to me. I also made sure he knows it too. Not like I let him to his own devices then blame him after he forgot it, right?

because birthdays are nothing. you're an adult not a child.

I understand you don’t celebrate yours. You’re probably not worried about the fact that it is infact the day you were born. But I Celebrate it, and I like to do it with people close to me whom I love and spend the most time with.
