Boyfriend forgot my birthday again?

My boyfriends birthday is a few weeks before mine. I threw him a huge all day bbq bash, and he had a lot of fun. I got him a gift he has had on his wish list for a while now. My birthday came, no cake, no party and no present. Last year he forgot as well. He did give me a gift a few weeks later, jewelry (I hate jewelry). He thinks I am being completely unreasonable for being upset, I think he is very self centred, and I makes me not want to do anything for him again. Am I being ridiculous?

Oh Nooo nooo you're not being ridiculous but you were foolish to put on a big bbq birthday bash for his birthday this year plus a present after being so let down last year when it came to your birthday a few weeks later. He sounds like some spoiled brat! Only a selfish uncaring and unkind boyfriend would do that to his girlfriend if he really did like her. However, I don't think you should have made such a big deal out of his birthday last year nor this year unless there was a very special reason for doing so... like he just came home from the military or just got out of the hospital after an accident and having been there for a few months, etc. Learn not to go overboard on things with a boyfriend unless you're totally and completely sure he loves you as much as you love him... or that he cares for you as much as you care for him. This type of lavish celebrating for such a simple event as a birthday will set you up for not having a clue what to do when you really do have a reason to celebrate something extra special for him or with him together. Take it easy and start downsizing and doing simple fun things and buying cute little gifts for each other's birthdays rather than expensive lavish parties and gifts. You'll find out that the simpler you celebrate birthdays the more fun they'll be and the longer they'll be remembered. I hope I didn't disappoint you. Actually, if I were you I'd dump a guy like that. .

You're not being ridiculous at all. This is a perfectly reasonable thing to be upset over, and the fact that he knows you're upset about it and doesn't do anything about it is definitely self-centered.

Frankly you have to make him understand how important birthdays are to you and how it hurts when he doesn't care enough to do anything on yours. If he's not trying to understand or do anything about it then you either have to deal with it or breakup with him.
