Question

I'm new to dating apps and have conversed with a few women who refused to share their phone numbers. I've heard several women complain about the same issue with men.

I've contacted four women who refused to give me her phone number.
01. The first woman I met, who wouldn't exchange phone numbers, had posted pictures of her younger sister on her profile, claiming that it was her.
02. The second woman who wouldn't give me her phone number, I explained that if we exchanged numbers, we could send selfies to clarify what we looked like, but she still wouldn't do it. I drove out to her area to meet her, but she didn't show up.
03. I met the third woman, who wouldn't give me her phone number, but we didn't click.
04. The fourth woman refused to give me her phone number. I tried to explain the situation and suggested communicating on an app where we wouldn't have to reveal our numbers, but she refused. Now I'm wondering if I should drive out to meet her.

I might take the chance. Because I can understand how she might not want to give out her number until she knows me. I wouldn't give mine out until I knew her better.

It depends on the other circumstances of our pre meeting contact and my assessment of her honesty.

I haven't done online dating in a number of years but most of my experiences were good. Had quite a few nice dates but never met anyone that I had a continued interest in. We both always had a good time on the dates though.

The only badish experience I had was meeting up with a woman who did give me her phone number before I went to meet her. And we spoke on the phone a few times.

I drove about 5 hours or so to meet her to a place I had never been before. She was a vegan so I wanted to surprise her and made reservations at a vegan restaurant in her area. Bought the flowers, the whole nine yards. I had been speaking with and video chatting with her regularly and was really looking forward to meeting her.

She was extremely attractive, I mean world class attractive. She had a young daughter.

Anyway got to the area where I was supposed to meet her, and she wasn't there. So I called her phone with no answer. Kept calling and calling, no answer. It finally got dark and after leaving several messages for her begging her to please call and telling her that it was okay to talk to me to tell me what was going on, I gave the flowers to some woman passing by and decided to leave to make the trip back home.

After sending her several texts and emails she finally responded apologizing and saying that she got cold feet and couldn't find a babysitter.

Not sure whether I believed her or not but it's possible. She had a kind of shyness about her. I don't think she was a scammer, just kind of confused about her life. So I forgave her.

We had some back and forth. Her family lived in my area and she moved back with her family temporarily. We arranged to meet at a restaurant. But this time I decided to back out. I didn't stand her up, I texted her a day in advance that I just didn't think it was going to work out.

She apparently ended up moving to California and became a minor actress. Acting was her ambition so I was happy to see that she was getting into it. There was no animosity it just wasn't a good fit.

But after all of that my point was that even if you have someone's number it doesn't mean much. It takes an awful lot to find a successful match.

Love for one thing I would be on the dating site but I wouldn't give my number either...

Look if you guys haven't figured this out yet there are so many scammers out there they want to flirt with you they want to talk with you and they want your phone number they get your phone number they start talking more hey let me send you some pictures what's your email

Okay so what's the phone number and your email they can now get into your email account it's still hard but they can do it..

I love dessert I love phone sex but I'm not going to give anybody my phone number not unless I know exactly who they are and I know that they're not trying to scam me stop giving your phone numbers or stop giving your email just stop giving both. Until you absolutely know who the person is either that or if you feel the need you have to give a phone number get a fake phone number

Giving our number out is SO much of a pain if the guy turns out to be weird, a scammer or a creep! I used to give my number out but nooooo. I don't now. Not easily. At least not until I know we are going to date then I would. However not having a way to verify someone is more an issue. I have my Snapchat so that's much better for that as you can tell of they send a pre set picture or an in the moment picture. And that's how we verify we are who we say. So for your date I would say tell her fair enough about phone number but unless she's willing for some other way to verify her your not going to date. If she easily says fine then she was probably gonna flake anyways.

this is completely normal, especially if you're a female. we aren't just going to give our phone numbers to anyone. that can turn out badly, especially when we barely know who we're dealing with. it's just a safety concern. it's best to stay communicating on the app until you two get to know each other better.

After my divorce, I was on a few dating sites. I chatted with women using the site's chat function, learning about each other, and sometimes agreeing to meet, planning that meet via the site's chat. I never gave my phone number, and she never gave me hers, until after we physically met for the first time, and only then if the date went well and things looked promising for more dates.

Unwritten social rules here I think, a phone number is privacy concern, for many of us, despite the fact that many, many apps want to have it. On top of that, there is a second untold rule possible, it is considered a safe policy for a man to give HIS phone number, so HE can be called if SHE wants to establish first contact. As we say in my lands: Man proposes, woman decides

Dating sites aren't safe places for women, so there's a need to compensate for, ways to protect. And for all I can tell, many places in the world aren't safe for women, the safest places are just safe enough, at best. So everything stacks here :)

I don’t use or ever will use dating sites, however if I did there is ZERO chance I would give my mobile number out to some random person on the Internet, that would be stupid. I might if we hit it off and we started dating, that’s the only time though, if they asked for mine, I would say No and ignore them.

Girls don't give their numbers to strangers... if they find something creepy or strange they block right away... It's normal for girls but annoying to boys... As they want to connect but trust me girls instincts r so good...

I wouldn’t. A couple years back, I matched with a woman on Coffee Meets Bagel. The app gives you 8 days to meet up with someone before the conversation expires. The conversation was going good so I asked for her number when there were 3 days left for us to chat. She told me to remind her to give me her number 1 day before the chat expired. Why do I have to remind you? For me, if you’re going to play stupid games, I’m not going to keep entertaining you. I let the chat expire and then she blocked me, so I couldn’t re-open the chat if I wanted to.

If you have a dating app on which you both can contact each other on you don't need to have phone numbers.

Same on this website, the messenger is functional but not great so if we get along well I usually take things off site so we can talk properly.

If I was single I wouldn't. It's not easy just as block and move on. Creeps can call us from different numbers to harass us. Communication via the app should be fine until you get to know each other better.
