Agreed. If you use other people's words you're showing you have none of your own. Hearing a guy regurgitate some crappy line he found online that he's already used 12 times today isn't impressive.

The only girls they work on are the type that ask "why does my crush look at me" type questions.

Yes, being yourself and not hitting on women in a social setting is the best form of flattery. I noticed I get approached more and flirted with with I had a girlfriend but I went to a bar or some kind of social gathering with a friend and I wasn’t actively trying to flirt. Simple conversation was enough, almost anytime I used pickup lines it was a failure, unless I simply asked a woman out and that was it. We’d usually end up going on a date.

Pickup lines are for 21 year old guys with dozens of close friends around him at a college party or a trailer-park block party with 300 lbs whales and tweakers or something

I had a friend in college who would just walk up to women and say "Wanna fuck?" He had about a 1 to 30 success ratio as far as I can tell. He took beatings from girls and their boyfriends. We would often have to bail him out of these. To be honest it got tiring even for him but I have to say he was never alone at the end of the night.

They make me laugh at how cheesy they are even if the person is really attractive. But I guess if I found them absolutely stunning I might forget the cheesy pick up line. But it definitely wouldn’t work on me no matter how hot the person.

Honestly I see them as a small funny icebreaker than anything else, normally a convo goes from that line to other lines to the most stupidest of lines. Then to talk about music and the like.

The pickup line matters NOT. It's ALWAYS the energy of the man doing the pickup line. Even if you're ugly and short, if your energy is right the girl will smile and laugh. Even if she's not attracted to you she will most likely reflect your energy.
