Is an office relationship with your boss a recipe for disaster?

I was 'the boss' for 6 years, and in that time, I never dated any of my subordinates. I felt it would be a total recipe for disaster. I made it very clear when I was approached, that it was never going to happen and I told an Admin just in case they ever tried to say I said it would.

Do you think if you are the subordinate or the boss, it's something you should just avoid or are you the type ot be like, to hell with it, love or lust is love/lust?

Yes.

The trouble is that people aren't logical when making those kinds of decisions. That's why it's calling falling in love. They don't always mean for it to happen, but it's such a nice feeling to get attention and be seen as attractive that it's a hard drug not to take.

That being said, I dated and married a coworker (not boss) and it was a great decision in my case. There were a number of things that made it a good choice, one being that we were both actually single and available. Another was that I'd already made the decision that unless he backed out, I was going the distance. I reasoned that if it didn't work out, I wasn't planning to stay in that particular field anyway and I'd just move on and focus on finishing my degree if things flopped. And last but not least, everyone was thrilled that the matchmaking schemes they wanted to work actually did, ha.

But from a logical and professional standpoint, I would urge caution.

When I was 21 there were very good looking and rich accountants who wanted to date me, I turned them down cause I felt they were too mature and serious for me. I wanted a guy who could still reason and think like a young person, not somebody who only saw life in money and material things.

I think it depends on the people. I have seen it work, and I have seen it not work.

I know a lot of people say to never date co-workers. I don't agree with that. Work is still one of the most common places where married couples met.

But boss-subordinate relationships are a special case. I still think it's OK, but I think they need to be more careful about how it affects the company.

Again, I've seen it go both ways, but I think I've seen it work more often than to not work.

If you like your job any romance in the office is bad because probably two out of 100 might last more than 2 years and 98 of those people are going to be fired when the breakup happens

Absolutely it is. I answer this from personal experience. This time last year, I had a crush on my supervisor. I’m sure he knew, but he never said anything. He and I would always talk, joke around, and laugh at work. However, it never went further than that. Although I liked him a lot, I knew it would’ve been inappropriate if he and I dated. Therefore, it was best to keep things professional.

I've never once seen it work well, and I highly doubt that I ever will. That said, I'm sure there are people who can make it work.

I'm not even interested in trying it, in my own life. My workplace relationships are at work. I'm not there to make friends. If we happen to get along, that's awesome, but that's a level of familiarity that I'm not particularly comfortable with.

I've dated my then secretary , we still know each other well , its been lifelong , for us our time together was brilliant , there were other issues and reasons we had to separate.

The workplace is often the only way to meet someone for most people.

If you like someone, tell them.

You have to take risks to get a match. No risks = alone forever.

It's not ok to date coworkers, but, people on dwts for example, do it all the time. Jenna and Val for example, got married, and they work together
