Is it normal to be too scared to date again after an abusive relationship?

This was my very first relationship at 29 with the physical and verbal abuse and being made to seem less. Like prior to her a girl told me a few years prior she wouldn’t date me if I was the last guy on earth.

Yes, it's normal. Just don't let it get too heavy on you that you may end up missing out on other good girls who can treat you far better than than the one who went by. Let yourself heal though. There are many people.. Men and women who have been in and out of abusive relationships and doing great with their current partners. Live and learn.

The thing it was so shocking because of how well I treated her another thing that added onto the trauma was people around saying how well I treated her and it was a one sided relationship so hearing people verbally say this also impacted me

Like her own mother said I was being mistreated and didn’t deserve what I was getting. She actually came once and went to the grocery store with me alone and said that she was concerned about her daughter chasing me off, that she seen me as her future son in law and that the behaviors her daughter was doing she didn’t get from her.

Well you got reassurance from the girl's mother herself, what could be better? It has been your first relationship so it is natural to feel this way. This girl wasn't worth it, take your time to sort yourself out. You will be interested in other girls again. Not every girl is worth it, not every girl is trash either.

Up to a point. If you're too scared you might have to consider the possibility you're just not ready yet and still have more healing to do.
