Would you recommend dating a woman with a child?

I don't totally agree with the idea that you have to be serious when dating a woman with a kid. Sometimes single moms just want someone to hang out with and do things with without having to decide if this is going to be their child's future stepfather or not.

I am a single mom. It would be fun to just go spend time with a man and feel like a woman, without having to go too deep. Single moms don't have a lot of friends to do things with individually because their married friends are busy with their own husbands, and the single friends have other people they hang out with, they can go on trips and be more spontaneous. Older people have time, but don't necessarily want to go watch a new movie late at night.

I'd say this: Just take the woman on a date. You don't have to decide if you're ready to take on a child right now. You may find that you don't feel ready, but over time you might. Or, it might just give her the gift of feeling beautiful and desired again. Maybe it's short term. That's OK. Just go slow and keep it casual. You may just find the love of your life.

I asked her if she wanted to get pizza sometime and she didn't respond. She definitely doesn't seem interested. I said "sometime" because I know she has a child and her schedule can be fluid. I put it in her hands to let me know when she is available

@Asker That's very thoughtful of you. Sometimes single moms are swamped and don't get back right away, so if it's only been a day or two I wouldn't sweat it. If you still haven't heard after a week, definitely just let it go and move forward.

Sure, but it will require maturity from both partners to make things work out. Kids really ain't the end-all-be-all thing some people think. Single mothers (and fathers) are still people with needs, who feel lonesome at times, too.

Everyone dates differently after they're a parent, and if they start putting you above the needs of their kid, they've probably got bigger issues to worry about.

Be supportive and patient about it, help them if you can or are asked to, or if you want to. Whether or not you meet the kid after weeks or months of dating is something you'd decide between yourselves. I feel like it's also valid to not want to date a parent, because kids can be a headache sometimes depending on the circumstances. (For instance, whining or throwing tantrums, or other things)

Not to mention that sometimes the exes will need to be around and coparent occasionally, or maybe they'll stir up shit and make things worse somehow. Who can say.

But I don't feel like parenthood should bar single people from dating, they just need to be flexible to support both their kid and their partner, while prioritizing the kid when necessary. Plans can be canceled and rescheduled, family can't.

Frankly, I don't care about getting laid as much as everyone else seems to, but if sex is very important to you, I can see how kids can easily interrupt those sessions.

Would I recommend it? Depends on what you value, and whether they're a good match for you. Being mature about things is a must.

Only if you’re prepared for something serious. If she’s a good parent her child is going to come first and you money won’t meet her kid until things are more serious between the two of you. If things do become serious and she’s in contact with her ex with coparent if you’ll have to be able to adequately navigate the delicacies of that relationship. If you like this person, are prepared to potentially step up and are ready to change your life go for it.

Women with children often demonstrate a higher level of maturity and responsibility than those without children. They also tend to have stronger family values.
