Why do most men have kids before 40?

If society keeps saying that women like older men, then why does it seem that the vast majority of men tend to have kids or already have kids ny 40? Prime age for men having their kids seems to be 30s. Its rather uncommon to see a man over 40 to finally begin having his first child

Not only is it uncommon but it is relatively dangerous and inconsiderate to have a child when a person is above the age of 40. Sperm quality substantially diminishes with each year passing and at age 40, the quality and quantity of sperm is very low. It is kind of irresponsible to procreate at that age.

The same applies to women. Not only does the number of eggs drastically diminish but at that age, the risk of complications and of having a child with trisomy 21 (down syndrome) increases exponentially with each year she gets older. The combination of an older guy above the age of 40 and a woman of the same age is the worst possible combination.

Could very well be. I am aware that with every year passing, the chance to have a child that has genetic malformation increases.

The danger of having children after 40
is PRIMARILY due to the age of the woman's eggs, with the result often being a child being born with Downs Syndrome, as you stated. The activity and vitality of the male Sperm Cell is not nearly that much of a factor, but I won't debate the point with you.

there's plenty of studies that show a mans sperm quality decreases every year as he gets older

I really don't think they do. Forty is very old to just be starting a family, and there is the associated increased risk of the child having autism.

You're overthinking this. Women are sexually attracted to older men, and men are sexually attracted to younger women. But the fact is when it comes to marriage most couples are similar in age, with men tending to be slightly older than their mates on average.

We don't want to have kids after 40. That's when we are hitting peak earning, our house is paid off our soon to be paid off and we have more disposable income to do whatever we want and we didn't want kids getting in the way of our travel plans.
