No. That's experience and instincts talking.

A lot of men will not do that on subconscious instinctive grounds. They are putting in the effort to raise another man's child. And, if the other man is still around, that's sets up potential conflict. Because the child is not his, he is limited by both the mother and the other father as to what he can do to raise the child properly in his mind.

On social media you see a lot of men in relationships with single mothers and they treat the kids as their own. That's honorable and the guys that don't are immature

That's good. Yes, a lot of guys can do it. A big factor is if the actual father or his family are involved.

Here's an example.
In June 2008, my middle step-son felt his brain needed to do a Swiss cheese impression.
So, that left his wife was a widow and his 4-year old son with no father. She has since found a new man and had a daughter with him. My wife and I are cordial and maintain relationships with everyone, but we also maintain distance too. This new man may not be the biological father of our grandson, but he is "the father" having raised the boy even though he never actually married my daughter-in-law.

I, too, was involved with a single mother of two girls as well, but the father was totally out of the picture.

Often it's because the Dad bailed or died. Two kids in my college dorm had Dads who took off when they were 6-7 years old and they hadn't seen them since.
