How do you ask a professor out?

I want to possibly date one of my professors. I know I can't date him while I am still in student in school. But I want to do it after I graduate. I want to set it up in such a way that he wouldn't be shocked when I do ask him out.

I plan on going to office hours, really get to know them, show plenty of interest in their subject, get all the "help" I can get from them. Maybe hold their gaze or check them out to let them know I am into him. Anything else I can do to increase my chances of him liking me back or saying "yes".

What if he is interested? How do you just assume he would be turned off by it? Its legal especially if I am finished with courses and am a day away from graduating

He would no longer be in a position of power after I graduate. I would have nothing to do with the school or his career by then. Thats why I chose to graduate before I ask him out.

1. He can't touch you as long as you are a student.
2. Once you stop being a student, then fine. But, if your life takes you away from your alma mater, he won't be able to follow you so, again, he likely would not be interested.

I am fine with that. In fact, in Spring 1988, I sort of went through something similar. __I__ was the teacher and, at 25, was only 3 years older than my students. I knew some were into me. But, they were all seniors and graduated right after that semester. So, even if I was into them (and some were definitely hot), they disappeared, so nothing could have happened anyway.
