When I was younger, I would get hit on at least 3 times a week, now it might be a few guys a year, but they are very good guys and I never leave the house which is one major factor in why I do not get hit on. I would rate myself as normal - neither very hot nor gross looking. Neither rich nor poor. Neither a saint nor a villain. Neither industrious nor lazy.

I think your main demographic shifts with you.

Men tend date the same age or younger, women tend to date the same age or older. Both generally date within 5 years of their own age. So..:

A 18 year old woman would generally be willing date a compatible 18-23 year old man, and 40 year old man would normally be willing to date a 35-40 year old woman. The man might try to go younger and occasionally have success but that comes with increasing social taboo the bigger the gap and is less common. Not to mention generational differences.

So basically your demographic shifts upwards for both but does so faster for women as men tend to be more comfortable dating younger.

That said, there are a ton of cougars, silver foxes, cubs and chasers out there who fill in the gaps so it’s not a hard and fast rule but just a trend.

I think the older you get (hopefully) the more mature you get. But I also think the older you get the more baggage people have. Everyone is roughly in the same boat at 20, not so much at 40. So I think people are much more willing to try and fail at 20 than 40.

Granted all this is a generalization.

There are a lot of options for me at my age; however, they aren’t comparable to what was available in my 20s. Too much baggage or haven’t taken care of themselves in too many cases. That wasn’t the case with the women I met when I was young.

Speaking from experience, after my divorce, there was a large collection of women around my age to date. Most were, like me, divorced, and looking for fun and the possibility of a relationship.

For women the options go down, and for men they go up; generally speaking because the world works in generalities. This is because of how men and women are wired. Women value men who have their life's together. This usually takes time. The longer they love, the more time they have to get it together and amass more wealth and success. Men value three things basically equally. Looks, making a family, having an easy to get along with partner. For women these things become harder to achieve as you get older.

The percent of smart people in in population is extremely limited. A portion of that very limited population is willing to settle for a not smart person... While new people are born every day creating new single people, the age range you have to work with is limited to somewhere around your own range. Thus the population of smart potential mates shrinks as they either get tied up in other relationships or die.

Oh boy, this depends on YOU not the circumstances or environment. My options have actually grown the more successful my career has been as I can flaunt $ which is basically fly paper to 90% of women. C'mon gals come n get it! I don't mind, as long as they give me what I need too (wink wink)

As you get older your pool of available people shrinks a lot. You will never have the dating opportunities that you have in college.
