Why do people do this?

So I have a friend who set me up with a friend of hers. She reached out first but instead of the texting or messaging me, she found me on FB dating and message me there. Needless to say, we hit it off immediately. All was going great. Messaged , called texted daily. She was the 1st to say I love you. I reciprocated the feelings. We were to meet for dinner this past Wednesday but something out of my control and we agreed to move it to Thursday. Thursday came and I never heard from her. I went to the restaurant where we were to meet and she never showed up. I went ahead and are by myself. Around 11 Thursday night I finally heard from her. She said she slept all day and just had woken up right before texting me. She apologized and said she was sorry for missing our date and said she promised she wasn't setting me up. I haven't heard from her since. I've tried calling her, our mutual friend has tried calling her and nothing. Won't answer texts or anything. She has apparently blocked both of us on FB now as well.. why do people do this. I wqs wanting to make a future with her.
