How does someone start dating again as a single father?

Question

Im a single father with a toddler, the mother of my son is still technically in my life but only in all negetive aspect. I am trying to get back out there but I seem to keep finding it hard cause of my circumstances.

I know I have a busy schedule between me going back to school, parenting, and my jobs. But I do make time in the day to try to go on dates and etc. but seems the fact that once someone knows I have a kid, they try to steer clear.

That depends on the relationship you have with your ex. As with single mothers, people usually assume you did something wrong. Now, personally I think a relationship goes both ways so blaming anyone isn't gonna help anything - I think women are often more forgiving towards a single dad, than men are to a single mom. In the sense that women get more easily treated as "for fun" rather than dating potential, because they're a parent.

If anything, I would suggest being open about the situation and allow questions to be asked. Personally I feel that many people, both men and women, with children are more ready to defend their situation, rather than simply trying to understand where the other, non-parent is coming from - when trying to communicate concerns.

That said, a lot of women got the hots for single dads.

Twenty percent of the time, you will be successful in getting a coffee date even if she has a boyfriend, provided she thinks you would be an upgrade. Do worry about the times you fail. I was in your situation but with 2 x toddlers , and let me tell you the prejudice against single father's is treble that of single mothers , that's just how it is..
You will be constantly judged

I note that you even were with this question , ask yourself.. Would they ask that to a female?

Best way is to turn the ( dating negative ) into a positive , be a proud single dad , focus and all the stuff you are doing , and I promise this , things drastically improve over time.
Just show yourself as a great caring , loving , Dad , and be ready for syendpity.

From what I have seen it is far easier to date as a single dad than as a single mom. For a single mom, the assumption is often that she is the problem. With a single dad, the assumption is usually that he is widowed or the mom is incarcerated or abandoned the child.

But as others have said, it is probably better to focus upon your child at this time.

Do you have sole/primary custody or is it shared? If you don't have the kid FT then you can date like anyone else. Just tell them you have a kid early on.
