Maybe not gate keeping but there’s these unspoken rules nowadays or changes that maybe were fine a decade or two ago that suddenly make you weird or a creep or worse and in some cases it’s valid but in other case I feel like things are getting out of hand.

One thing is age gaps probably one of the more contentious topics nowadays and one sided and sexist when it comes to older people dating way younger woman get a startling lack of push back if at all even worse if woman engage with minors I have rarely seen them get more then a few angry and upset people call them out and then it’s like everyone forgets. If we are gonna give push back we need to give it on both sides equally not pick and choose.

Second half to this is people making things that aren’t weird well making them weird now. I watched as a comments section went up in flames over if a 17 and 19 year old should be dating because the 19 year old is an adult legally and someone how he is now a pedo cause h likes someone two years younger then him?

I just think we all need to seriously get a grip. Stop gate keeping who can and can’t date based on age when it’s reasonable obviously like if a two year gap isn’t okay then what’s? it’s just stupid even legal adults if your more then 4 or 5 or 6 years worst it’s a problem at that point who cares your grown adults?

I feel like other people are way to invested in the relationships of others.

Hmm... I did not expect to agree with this, when I clicked on your question. I was pleasantly surprised.

I think that the problem isn't a generational one. I think the problem is an "internet" one.

You are making the common mistake of assuming that Twitter, Reddit, Youtube comments etc... represent the real world. That's what's bumming you out.

So for example, the 17 and 19 year old example. I have no doubt that there are places on the internet (I'm thinking reddit, but surely other places too) where people would argue that vehemently. Start throwing around accusations of someone being :"a pedo."

You're right that this is some ridiculous bullshit. But its not the real world Ask any 19 year old guy with a 17 year old girlfriend. Nobody thinks this, nobody is calling the guy a pedo to his face, or behind his back. Because that would be absurd.

It's the online places that can attract people who feel disproportionately passionate about a 19 and 17 year old sleeping with each other... into those comments sections.

Most people, who think: "who the fuck cares"... wouldn't bother to comment or argue about it. So, its a self selection bias. It makes people who would roll-their-eyes at anger over this... not bother engaging in the debate (comment at all). Because its stupid!

So it gives you the impression that people give a shit about that situation... when they don't. Not in real life. (even ask people in real life... you can test this yourself).

I do agree with you 100% that age-gap related "push-back" ought to go both ways. Regardless of which partner is which gender. That is definitely not just an online thing. That was the case before the internet (say with teachers being inappropriate with a student. Female teachers indeed were looked at as less monstrous. Still not ok... but not the same as the male teacher with a female student)

So I urge you not to think of it as a generational thing. Nor a gatekeeping thing. I think you should just look at it as a bunch of internet idiots saying things you know full well are wrong and ridiculous. But its a self-selection bias... which can then turn into community norms and peer pressure within those communities to conform. (e. g. it becomes clear to everyone that to be on the safe side of things... its wise to agree that the 19 year old is a horrible pedophile for having a 17 year old girlfriend. So people do. And people who think that's ridiculous... stay quiet because they don't want to be at-odds with the crowd)

I think there is ZERO commitment in today's generation. I'll never understand all the rules they set forth when they have no intention of sticking around anyhow. I think today's youth dating is 90% just powerless and seeing how much they can get away with. I think most people today are toxic AF and don't realize it. Or maybe they realize it on some level, and simply don't care. Because that's another thing about today's youth. None of them really want to understand other people. At least not deep enough to forge anything meaningful. They just want to know what makes them tick so they know how to manipulate them.

Views on the Internet tend to differ a lot depending on where you are. On here, I don't see much hate towards age gap, there is definitely hate, but not as much as on places like a reddit.

The comments you are seeing come from a minority though and are mostly jokes or in some cases real, but I haven't encountered many.

I saw most hate in real life though. In the end it doesn't matter because people can say what they want, but rarely they get involved into peoples business.
