Is it considered rude not to order anything?

I recently was out with a friend and we stopped at coffee shop. While there, he offered to get me something to drink, but I politely declined because I honestly didn't want anything. Would this make it seem that I was uninterested in him? Would this bruise his ego?

If you didn't want anything, you didn't want anything, yes? But the issue here appears to be that you were out on a date, correct? A coffee date. And you thought it would seem like you weren't interested in him because he didn't pay for something for you?

Put a TIP in the jar for his coffee and ask him to get you a cup of water.

Don't make this complicated because it isn't. A man doesn't have to buy you something in order for you to be interested in him. Knock such silly rules out of your head.

Show interest in his conversation, say how much you enjoyed your coffee date and make another one on the spot. THAT shows interest.

Take him out to your favorite shop and pay for his coffee next time. Get that same cup of water because you don't want coffee/tea or another drink. That's how YOU roll.

Enjoy his company and he'll know you're interested, no matter if you order or not. Good luck.
