Girls would you rather be third wheeling or in a double date?

In essence, "third wheel" describes the feeling of being the odd one out in a couple's interaction, and wishing you were not present in that situation.

You know? I’ve never felt like that. I think bc of the people I hang with. They’re couples who are very kind to me and genuinely engage in conversation… and are true friends so I’m happy to see them happy.


However I was out with a single friend the other day and as soon as we walked into the place she’d chosen a guy approached me bc he saw we were new and he asked if we needed help or a recommendation or something while the band was setting up. He was v sweet and explained he is from the neighborhood and runs the weekly activities with his family etc. (Nice guy, not handsy or forward ir overbearing, but I must have looked completely out of my element at a beer garden since I don’t drink beer.)


My friend knew her way around the drinking menu, and awkwardly perched herself on a stool. The guy stuck around and was chatting us up — presumably hitting on HER since she’s so pretty. But then the unexpected happened… he was actually a descent guy only interested in chatting with a gal his age… and that was me.


If I needed to get up for food or anything he was super attentive and asked to come with me but I asked him to stay with my friend so she’s not alone. And she found us a proper table to sit at and the three of us were exchanging funny stories…. Not realizing he was into me I gave him lots of time to chat up my friend while I danced as the band played.


She kept drinking and wasn’t eating… started flirting with the bartender who plied her with drinks then took her out back somewhere…. Long story short, when I found her drunken ass and told her we were going home and asked where her keys were so I could drive she yelled and got physical and then got in her high horse and asked how does it feel to be the third wheel?


I had no idea what she was talking about, but after the scene she caused I made sure she was home safe and never hung out with her again. The guy, however has quickly made himself a fixture in my life. Very sweet fella.

I’d rather BE the third wheel than be stuck with some double date when either I want to be alone with my guy or the other couple ends up being too PDA etc.

I believe that neither option is ideal for a single person.

Third wheeling is definitely the worst of the 2 options because that 3rd. person will have the feeling to be out of place if a couple is trying to be by themselves in a romantic setting and there may be some uneasy moments when certain actions of words need to be private and not shared with a third party.

I personally don't date as that does not interest me and thus, this double date business would not be anything for me in the first place.

For the exact same reasons as for the first option, you are not alone with your partner if you are on a double date and cannot behave the way you would if you were alone.
