I have never cared for competition that much. Doesn't matter whether it's sports, board games, or anything in life. I never cared too much about winning or losing. And if I thought it would make people happy, I've often thrown games to make them happy because at the end of the day... it's a game.
It's the same thing in any relationship. It's better to cooperate than compete with each other. Men and women are meant to compliment each other. What the other lacks, the other makes up for. Nowadays, women tend to compete with men much more and it comes across as hypermasculine.
"I can make my own money. I don't need a man."
"I can hold my own door. I don't need a man."
"I can build my own desk. I don't need a man."
"I can protect myself. I don't need a man."
Men want to feel useful. We don't want to have to deal with women that keep saying "I can do it. I can do it. I can do it."
Part of being feminine is being receptive to help. It's a highly attractive quality.
you can do both at the same time in most sports...
teams sports, that is... you do cooperate to compete with others who cooperate among them as well
I was big into sports as a young kid and teen, and I am VERY competitive within sports settings, but I always knew I did prefer to cooperate and that's the reason why I did mostly focus and did stick with competitive team sports the most (soccer and football) tennis for example, I really liked it and also other similar ones with racquets and paddles and I really got into because of the immersive competitive aspect but, it wasn't just as rewarding for me as to being a part of a team that does work as a team...
Depends.
Devil is in the details.
I would never compete in love. That means ownership. Loving someone enough to let them go is solid strength.
If it's a horrible neighbor. Just document and sue the hell out of them. Competing won't work.
Job promotion? Eh. People will select who they want no matter how well you do.
Sport? Sure. Have fun.
We have to be able to cooperate in order to get along with people, but a good competition done with the right attitude is lots of fun. So, both.

Compete when in a competitive setting , like a race or a tournament or a competition involving a prize or sports.
Cooperating is something almost universal where you would need to be a team player rather than an overachiever in one’s own world. Presentation Group , Team Building Exercise , Sports Involving Teams , Politics to achieve meaningful legislation without compromising one’s own values , and not being afraid to ask for help , relationships , working with your therapist to achieve a better life through small goals over a lengthy period of time , etc.
cooperate as long as you still are not being a pushover
I say cooperate. However competition can make us better
Depends on the context.
Cooperate. But ONLY if that person is willing to cooperate as well.
Both, at least for now.
