Trust goes both ways. I always give my partners fingerprint access to my phones, and the partners I've had have always been like-minded, so I never even had to ask them for theirs. They just gave me access. And the thing is, we never checked each others phones because we were extremely communicative, always updating each other on where we were and who we were with.

Not as bad as the other guy said but, to me my phone is like part of my brain, and I don't want anyone going around reading my mind, so no one is allowed to look at my phone. I also respect other people's rights to that, and I don't ever ask. If they want to show me something, I'll look, but I'm not going to go poking around in their business, even a boyfriend.

My mom told me when they had the old-fashioned phones in their houses, no one came around and asked for a list of who you were calling or who had called you. The same with diaries, calendars, notebooks, everything our phones do for us now.

It’s part of the controlling aspect, but it can also be because he is hiding things too. I usually don’t care because I have nothing to hide, but if I have nothing to hide then he should have nothing to hide, so it should be reciprocated. In the last relationship I also found out, since I gave him access to everything, that he had saved my (female) friends’ numbers to his phone and would call them and sometimes would use my phone at night try to message or call them for some reason. I honestly think if they are jealous person from my experience they shouldn't be going through the others phone because when my ex would go through my she would read into something that wasn't there that we would end up in an argument and at times she wouldn't give me her phone even though she would sometimes I wouldn't go through it.
