I'm extremely biased, but I've experienced something like that. For me, it was because I was experiencing feelings that were extremely foreign to me. The situation I was in caused me to be more avoidant that I typically am, especially now. I know I sent her just as much mixed signals as I percived she sent me. I felt very connected and insync with this girl despite never actually having a conversation. She always stood out to me, and I could turn my attention away from her when I recognized her. I almost felt like I could read her mind.
