Is still accurate to assume that women are looking for a man hat takes the lead?

For clarification: As a guy I´ve been switching in and out of the dating circle. I´m also confronted with women that either complain that no guy asks them out or that there are no good guys left. So thinking about it, I´ve been wondering if many women actually want a guy that takes the iniative and takes the lead. I come from a liberal culture where traditional gender roles have been replaced by what ever feels good and a family with very assertive women I´ve been wondering if male passivity is part of the issue of current dating culture.

For clarification: I´m not talking about guys being "alpha" or taking the control. I´m talking about guys taking the iniative and be the one who takes action first.

You ask this question like women are monolith. They are not. There are good women and there are bad women. And BOTH of these women reside in both camps. Some good and some bad women EXPECT the man to do the approaching. And some good and some bad women will do the approaching themselves. As far as leading goes. And bad women EXPECT a man to lead ALL of the time. And there is noting wrong with wanting a man to lead. But a good woman builds a man up. A bad woman tears a man down. A good woman recognizes the strength that resides in a man and fosters an environment that allows that strength to come out. A good woman is a man's deepest well of strength believe it or not. She allows him to become a greater man than even he realized was possible. The reason I'm saying this is I'm trying to say is a good woman may want a man to lead but she also recognizes maybe that's not fully in his nature yet. So she uses positive reinforcement when he displays leadership and naturally he just wants to lead more. It works the same way for the guy. A woman may be beautiful. But she becomes MORE beautiful when she's with the right man. Because the right guy reminds her she's beautiful and I do mean inside and out. That unlocks a greater confidence in her and a confident woman just shones brighter.

In short man, stop concerning yourself with whether you should lead or not. Concern yourself with what is normal to you. Concern yourself with being a man of your word. Concern yourself with being a man of principle. Live your life by a code, and do not comprise that code for anyone. And the right woman WILL take note.
