The entire heterosexual dating scene is very transactional. Every man who dates women is a victim in that way. I was jaded about dating and very selective about women by the time a dyed in the wool gold digger might have targeted me. On the other hand, i don’t flash my disposable income or talk about money in a way that would catch one’s attention. So i have never been targeted and i have never had to go out of my way to avoid being taken advantage of.
At this point in my life i typically have at least one regular call girl in my phone for when i’m craving physical intimacy or sexual release. The arrangement is always made and understood upfront. So usually nobody really feels cheated in the end. It can be difficult, and expensive, to find a good, trustworthy call girl though. I have felt cheated a couple of times, until i accepted that you generally get what you pay for and karma is a b*tch. If i was tryna get mine on the cheap, she was usually tryna get hers for little or no effort too. That doesn’t bode well for a mutually satisfying arrangement.

But most gold digger stories are less about manipulation and more about mismatched expectations.

One person is offering money, stability, or lifestyle hoping it buys loyalty or affection.

The other accepts it without offering the same level of emotional investment.

That’s not always a villain, it’s often poor boundaries and unclear intentions on both sides.

Real gold digging exists.

But more often, it’s a lesson in learning that generosity without discernment isn’t love, it’s leverage.

When values, effort, and expectations are aligned, this problem rarely shows up.

Nope. I grew up in a gold mine. Gold diggers were not created, they were spawned. From their inception I've seen every iteration of their evolution from birth until adulthood. I could never be tricked by one, but obviously that's not great for a path toward marriage.

Sort of. From the time I was 15 I planned to become a lawyer. I changed my mind half way through my undergad junior year. My girlfriend, who I had been with for 3 years, tried VERY hard to change my mind. When I wouldn't, she ultimately broke it off. She even said once when we were arguing about it that she was planning to be married to a lawyer, not an accountant. I don't know where that came from since I never studied accounting and never planned to be an accountant.
