I would be honest with her. I would tell her that I would very much like to go out with her, but I already have plans on that day.

I wouldn't cancel established plans with someone just to go on a date, and I would consider it a character flaw if I knew someone did that to go out with me.

I would be annoyed, at the very least, and possibly pissed, depending on what our actual plans were, and how much planning was involved.

I mean, I'd understand, but it would still be irritating. You just don't break plans like that, or at least I wouldn't, and it would be upsetting to discover they pay me less consideration than I would pay them.

Any friend of mine would understand if I had to or wanted to re-arrange and if the date could not or did not want to then their loss

There's no formulaic answer to this dilemma.

If it's a close friend that I spend a lot of time with, I may take the date. I'll see my friend again soon anyway.

If my close friend is only available occasionally, I'd tell the date that I have plans.

There's no dilemma for me here, as I had plans already then I'll go with my friend. I'm 100% sure my date would understand, and if she doesn't, well, it tells me it's a bad start lol
