Do people lie about dating success just to impress others or spark jealousy?

There's a man I hadn't spoken to in ages. He was not very bright except academically and not very nice in general; but we have to get on okay, because we attend the same Autistic social group. Anyway, he recently said that he's been on five dates with a woman who's a doctor. I am studying to be a teacher's aide and wanting to work in an Autistic school.

My mum said that he's trying to impress me and that it can't be the truth, because no one really bright would ever date someone like him. So I was fascinated by that. Do people actually genuinely lie about stuff like that to make themselves look more impressive and to make people jealous? I have never considered doing something like that. To me, people are either interested in you or not and that's the end of it.

Yes, many do brag even though they are hopelessly single. You often see that on here. Men who claim to be such experts on dating techniques are usually the ones that have a lifetime of failure in that department.

I don't. Been single for the last 11 years. I told my last girlfriend this is it and have stuck to that.

Thanks, I'll do my best. I'm prepared for the possibility that there isn't someone out there for me, but even if there isn't, at least I'll be out there, pursuing interests, making friends and enjoying life.

It's not easy at times. On the other hand, you have no one to answer to and you can do as you wish; and do with your money as you wish. I like that side of things.

Yes :) most of those I know in person are Autistic. I have about two friends who aren't Autistic.

Thanks :) Technically I can get married, have kids and work if I want to. With normal people, but it took me years of training and therapy to learn how to develop my social skills to the point where I can mostly fit in.

People lie ALL the time to impress someone romantically and long term it doesn’t work because they will rightfully be upset when they found out you lied. At the end of the day someone will make a connection with you or they won’t. Last thing you want is to find a good woman or good man then ruin the trust when they figured out you lied. Much less if you get married and spend your life….. yeah miserable.

I don’t know if it’s true or not but yeah he’s probably lying to you. If he’s dating so many other people and he isn’t that nice. Then he can go have a doctor girlfriend either real or imaginary. It’s his life.
