Are my boyfriend’s violent outbursts signs he may eventually hit me?

My boyfriend has always turned to violence when he got angry, telling me how much he wants to punch someone or for someone to punch him. It was never directed at me. He’s only talked about hurting others and how he wants to rip someone’s jaw off as an example because they fucked him over. Lately, we have been getting into fights and it’s mostly him raising his voice at me. He got drunk and took it out on me, yelling at me because I accidentally put his food in the fridge when he told me not to. He said hurtful things and was slamming doors and hitting the table really hard and hitting his hands together really hard, like punching his hand. Are these signs that he will hit me eventually. He has told me he would never do that. I would like to believe he would never do that, because he is gentle and loving with me like 99% of the time. I know this might make me sound naive and stupid.
