It never really comes back 100%. It can come most of the way back. Ultimately, don't lie/cheat/hide things and people catch on eventually. Actions do it, albeit slowly but words mean nothing if you can't trust the words.

If he broke your trust, it is up to rebuild it with you in my opinion. He has to prove by his actions over a long period of time that he can be trusted. It doesn't happen overnight.
