Are long-distance relationships actually worth it in the long run?

I think it only works if there’s a silver lining. Like maybe they’re apart for a few months at a time, or maybe they met in person, then have temporary distance with the assurance that one will move closer to the other with certainty, not just hopes and wishes. Otherwise it’s like having a glorified penpal.

Depends. Deployed soldiers with wives and kids have to do it all the time. What would you suggest for them? Likewise, if the long distance thing is because of a 6 month career need to be somewhere else, there's an end in sight. But open ended pen pal situations over the internet with no clear path to anything? Dumb generally. Unless both people are happy just being pen pals and the occasional nude pic.

I think they are a huge challenge due to not being able to see each other IRL. Sure video chat (and sex I guess) is ok but it is not the same as seeing each other irl. Are you involved in an LDR. If so how is it going?
