Would you join a company that prevents you from working with their associates in future? Why/why not?

Say there's a big MNC level company that hires you and in their contract is a clause stating that once you leave the co., you can't work with a certain number of companies which are associated with them, like clients, or vendors (forever or for a certain period of time)
How much legit it is, legally speaking? What if we do actually work with those barred companies in future? Please explain more in comments.

Is this a non-compete clause? I always thought this very unfair. People have skills, training, and it seems so unethical to me to prevent them from making a living in their field of expertise. (I'm pretty angry about a lot of the things big corporations do and try to get away with.)
But I guess... from their perspective, you now could have 'trade secrets', inside knowledge, and then take this to a competitor. Bagh.
I might even hire a lawyer for a one-time consultation, if I were you. Contracts always favour the writer, and contracts can be negotiated. You might be seen as a pain in the ass, or you could be seen as savvy.
Either way, protect yourself.
I wonder what Google and the big 5 tech do/how they handle this.
