It depends on the career I suppose. The question was should education just prepare for a job.

Debatable as the best paid jobs come through further education but of course you generally speaking need to do well at school to access that

No because if you look around its making the kids fucking dumb. For example they want the kids to get jobs in tech and robotics and keep up with China. So in some schools they shove so much math down the kids throats, yet they can't even read and write. And most still can't do the math they want because not everyone is cut out for that. Smh. The most capable kids as a group are homeschool kids who focus on the core basics plus their own interests plus usually moral education.Basic education is basic education, not job training.
