I voted strongly disagree, but I'll change my answer here to just "disagree". That should be ONE of the jobs that school helps with for sure, but definitely not the primary one. I think more should be put into finding kids strengths and passions and making them realizing their weaknesses. It should not be cookie cutter tests and assignments. They should make tests and assignments for kids based on the individual. And before you say "It's too laborious to will take too much time to do this." That's just not true. 1 teacher per classroom... The first 2 months is to assess kids strengths and passions and classify them into a category where they will learn best, love and thrive in it. The kids will learn much faster using an approach like this and teachers designated to each category will have a much easier time teaching their students because they will know which skills they have and how to proceed.
On another note, we should learn survival skills (how to swim, start a fire, etc), how to cook, how to do taxes, etc. In Japan there are no janitors in schools. They make the kids do the janitors jobs so they're taught at an early age what it takes. That teaches work ethic and what it takes to maintain a place.
Anyways... I can go on and on with this, but I'll just end it with "disagree".
I did the political compass test for fun a few times. Here are my results.

Nah. That is a secondary function to me. The prime function should be as simple as helping people understand and find a place they like in society as well as to develop cognitive abilities to enable self-development. That of course goes hand in hand with a profession.
It also raises the question of morals. For example on how to keep an institution that teaches critical thinking unbiased when it is run and operated by the entity that most desires a bias. An area where pretty much everyone is failing.
Education is important don't get me wrong but absolutely nothing is set in stone. The creation of debt before you can afford or have the experience of work. All they teach you is old ways of thinking what worked for people in the past with exception of e. g Science, technology, innovative fields and Medical fields... They don't teach you taxes, how to navigate through life, how to create an empire... I feel mainstream learning keeps you part of the heard and makes you a sheep. Where you go to work -routine do your 9-5 , day in day out for a boss who will eventually replace you. Soon old ways of thinking will be ruled out and replaced and what will people do with their qualifications that they have cannot get a job at that they don't have experience cause they're too young to be hired? How do you get experience for your job if they want experience and no one wants to hire you?
It should be to educate them in all aspects of life. To help them figure out who they are and what they want out of life. Give them an all around education to ensure success as a citizen in society. There are basic skills and lessons that are essential to learn before going out into the world that aren't just needed for jobs.

The prime function of schooling should be to teach people the basic skills of life: How to learn/gather information, how to analyze using logic, how to identify and solve problems.
In addition to giving a general survey of the knowledge of the human species up to this point, of course. Things like chemistry, history, philosophy, political ideologies, religious ideologies, biology, mathematics, physics, etc. There are so many subjects I do not feel are covered in depth enough. I know you can take courses in college on just about any subject you can dream up, but I feel a basic education pre-college should include things like: how to do your taxes, what are the major (and some of the minor) religious and political views in the world? Too much education becomes a political thing where they don't want to let people know there are other religions, or other political ideologies. If you are so confident yours is the best, why would you be afraid to have someone learn about the others? The PRIME function of schooling USED to be to teach people how to think critically and to research answers for themselves. But the Department of Education destroyed that. Today, schooling is increasingly about woke politics and victim hierarchy. It's absolutely disgusting.
Many teachers prohibit parents from being in the room during Zoom school because they don't want parents to know what they are teaching their kids. That is beyond appalling, and should be (and in some places IS illegal).i mean yeah that's kinda the point. When you build a city in, a city simulator game the only reason to create a school in that is so more people get educated so they can get a job and work in that city. Meanwhile the uneducated don't work or get the rubbish jobs.
Without this, we wouldn't get much far in creating jobs other than factory work. So it's need for are society for it's main focus to be as such.
Nvm uneducated for a job can just make a person commit crimes such as drug dealer or robbery. Then there is the lot that go benefits.
Society would pretty much just fail if the goal wasn't to do this, and heck it fails all the time now due to schools been generally bad at getting people equipped for a job. So if society would just go into run without this it kinda has to be the main point of it.
Since a lot of people are using history as a good example of why they disagree welp there is no point teaching history... if there is no future anyway.Well yes, but a poor job is being done. Because there are many age levels. I’m sure there are those if you don’t have it by now? Well!
For instance the kid in Baltimore that was/did? Graduate, GPA .013 after 4 years
The schools are doing those that want to learn a huge disservice. But you most certainly can’t blame the school/college/university for this completely! Just look
at the above! It took help to get that GPA. Her name Tiffany France. Kid passed 4 classes in 4 years.
‘Not letting Government schooling off either~Nope, Yes our tax $ are going to education. Here’s the issue. Money is in DC, schools/colleges/universities throughout
the land. Thousands of miles/red tape bureaucracy in between. If that’s not bad enough
We have poorly run school district$ everywhere.
Just my opinion.
‘sorry bout being long in the toothJobs are really important because without them our system quite frankly just wouldn’t focus. But there should be a more important prime function of schooling — what about equipping us with basic life skills so we become decent human beings? Surely if we didn’t have these life skills then we wouldn’t be able to perform our jobs... which unfortunately some people don’t. And they’re crap at their jobs.
The real purpose to any schooling isn't so much as to be able to perform a job, it's 1) to teach a person the skills to teach themselves and 2) to make them a well rounded citizen. Whenever I hear some dimwit say, "School is so you can get a good job." To me it demonstrates a myopic mindset that says people's only function in life is a cog in the machine. And those machines generally are large international corporations or the US government.
That's part of it but it should be to prepare you for life and give you the tools you need to make your own logical choices utilizing the skills you learned in school.
Things like History are important as well because who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.Subjects like history and English are important as well. People who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it. And how could you go through life without reading some Shakespeare or Hemmingwy?
Education, whether its maths and science or history and art demonstrates our ability to learn. If you can't pass a test in a Mickey mouse subject then employers know your too stupid to train to do a job
Reading, writing, and arithmetic should be the primary curriculum through elementary, middle and high school. High school teach the trades along with how to be an adult and be self reliant. Sadly in my location they’re indoctrinating elementary school kids with this social justice Warrior crap along with racial hatred of Caucasians.
Teaching job preparation is important but teaching morals is also important, like one of the reasons our society is more tolerant than others is because our schools teach religious and racial tolerance.
That’s one function. Not the prime function. The prime function is to teach people to think critically and creatively.
I kind of agree
I don't think there is a prime function
I do think that's a big part of everything but it's not less or more important (to me at least) than doing stuff like developing social skills and stuff like thatThe primary function of schooling should be to teach the English language, history, math and science to a useful level such to have a moral population.

I agree, but school should be also a place where children and teenagers learn how to deal with other human beings and how to make our society a better one.
It should be except it’s not.
I
Mainstream focuses a lot of an idea of ‘ I teach you a lesson then I ask you question and see how much information you retained’It’s not it’s only job but certainly a very important part
Chose the wrong answer. Gag needs to have an undo button on polls. I meant strongly disagree.
You can only agree with this, if all you want are ignorant drones.
Education is far more important than finding a job.No.. if anything people should be brought away from the "cog in the machine" mindset.
