Why do people act so surprised at how smart you actually are?

I work full time as an Administrator and I'm also doing a degree in Accounting. My bosses and colleagues were surprised, and now whenever I talk about things that I'm learning they're surprised that I understand. Or when I talk to new people about things like personal finance or economics they act surprised.

They are ignorant and have stereotyped opinions about people based on their employment. There are smart talented people in every occupation.

Because intelligent and educated people are actually kind of rare, so it's a surprise when you run into one.

my friends are always surprised when i can go on talking about the history of legos or a rant about a star wars character who you only see for 1 sec. so I don't know why they are

I was actually thinking of more things than just attractiveness like your face. Some people look dumb. Some look smart.
