My manager at work called me stupid and makes me doubt my ability. Should I say something?

I’ve been working in a new job, and I’ve been there for almost 2 months now. Everyone at work I get on really well with and have positive working relationships with colleagues. Except my manager. She always points out all my mistakes and flaws and never says a nice thing about my work. When she was training me on the job, she kept pointing out that I was incompetent and couldn’t work my job. I went on live at one point to work with people after my training and she face palmed me to suggest I was failing. Now I’m on the real job, and she keeps saying things which make me doubt my performance. The other day I dealt with a safeguarding query and tried to do the best job I could. Instead she just said to me “I don’t want anymore disasters from you today” and then she proceeded to “joke” about me being stupid and making mistakes, which made me feel uncomfortable and bad about myself

I’ve also found that I tend to walk on eggshells around her, as she’s never once said a nice thing about my work or complimented my work, she only ever tells me when I’ve made a mistake or failed at something. I feel very stupid around her as nothing I ever do seems to be right

should I say something to somebody about this?

I'm leaving my toxic job in 2 weeks after 9 mouths of bullying from other colleagues. My situation sounds very similar to yours. I'm wrote a dairy with times and dates and got a witness. I had 20 pages full of bullying in my diary. I'd complained already to my manager. He warned the bullies once but they were only nice for a week.

I no longer had faith in my manager so I sent my diary to the head of operations. He really cared and wanted to help so sent it to HR. She was useless and didn't even read the diary and made a tone of excuses for people and herself. I was made to be the bad guy and punish for speaking out and going through the proper procedures of reporting it. They decided instead of doing anything with the bullies but they were gonna move me to another shift were I'd be bullied even more so I could be a snitch on them bullies too. I found out the main bully actually asked for me to be moved because she didn't like me and wanted me gone even though I had done nothing to her so instead of punishing her they punished me by trying to take me away from my friends.

My friends stuck up for me and I put my foot down they had no choice but to get me to do a intervention with my bullies. They constantly blamed me and my manager was no support but I came out the winner in the end as the operations manager got to see the boys for who they really were as they kicked off in the intervention and showed their ture colours too the point the operations manager shouted at them and threatened to but it on there profiles but they are bullies. He was the only member of management who cared.

After the intervention the main bully was screaming and denying everything. Now she doesn't talk to besides when she wants to have a go at me and I've given up reporting the bullying as HR do not care.

Try reporting it but more than likely HR will not care and they'll treat you like your the problem not the bully. They do not have your best interest at heart and only care about money. Your honesty best off leaving sorry to say.

That is workplace abuse and that shouldn't be tolerated. If she cannot handle managing you, then you need to be assigned to another manager if you more than one on the job. As others have said, report them to HR. That kind of language calling them stupid is wrong. There was no logical reason to say that.

She can point out every error you make, and bring up issues with job skills and job performance to her hearts content, but she is not allowed to call you names or insult you. Go to HR.

The issue is you’re letting her get to you.
If you want things to get better when she says things like I don’t want any more disasters from today tell her what about tomorrow can I start with the disasters then?
If you use humor she’s going to laugh and I pick up her energy with the story that you telling me she’s a very silly sarcastic actually good woman but her humor is dry so if you do this she will begin to like you.
Do you know when people make fun of me a lot which in a kind of business that I’m at especially when I started..


When people make fun of me which usually is the same stuff what I do is I make fun of myself thousand times worse.

That’s not okay, it’s creating a hostile work environment for you and I’d report her to either her superior or HR. That superior/bully mentality, especially because she’s in a position of “power” has no place at work. She’s working for a company just like you and can get fired just as easily.

You should be looking for another job, or at least another manager. She feels threatened by you so she is trying to drive you out before you outperform her. A manager calling am employee stupid is beyond incompetent.

Had the same issue and I ended up quitting on-the-spot one day. One of the best decisions I ever made, zero regrets. I got a better job following this and I'm much happier than I was.
