I used to work as a barista for 4 years (during college) but because of covid, I had to find another job. So I currently work at a daycare (I’m still in college and my major is education, so working with kids is ok) and I was looking for a weekend job, and I found one at a coffee shop. The previous coffee shop I used to work at paid me $15 an hour. The new coffee shop that I work at pays me $12 an hour (plus tips). I feel overqualified to be making only $12 an hour - especially since I have barista experience (the only thing I’m new at is working with the different espresso machines). I started working this job 3 days ago, but should I quit?

Or should I try to negotiate the pay with my manager?

Trust me. 12 with tips is better than 15$. You likely are overqualified but that puts you in a position to leverage them into getting you a raise. If I once got a raise before I had received my 1st paycheck. If you play this right you'll be getting 15 plus tips by the end of summer

You shouldn't expect to be paid the same as your old job because you're fresh. Besides you have no new skills or a digree to overqualify you. Your just basing your value off what people in the past were willing to pay regardless of economical changes or duration in the current job witch is a big factor.

If you don't struggle at a job in the beginning then you're overqualified.
