In the United States a graduate engineer must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam before an employer will talk to you. After a year (with a graduate degree, or two years with a BS) the perspective employee must pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam- which is no joy! Once that's done you still need to be licensed in your State.
