Did you go to college? Why or why not?

I started taking classes at community college right after high school. I only took a couple classes per semester because I always had a job and I was also busy having lots of fun.
I took music theory, electronic music, some PE classes like archery and canoeing, as well as quite a few general ed classes. But I didn't take it all that seriously. I didn't have a major in mind. I didn't take classes every semester, especially during summer. I dropped out of some classes, too, if I found them boring.
When I was 26, I was offered a job with an insurance company as a motor vehicle damage field adjuster/appraiser trainee with amazing salary and benefits. So I cut my long hair and started wearing a suit. I stuck with that job for 30 years.
In my early 30s, I started night classes at community college and got my AA degree. Plus I took a few additional classes. This time I took it seriously. I really enjoyed it, took some advanced (AP) courses and always had top scores in the classes because I liked them so much. Plus, I had grown up, no longer surfed or thought I was a rock star, and wasn't into partying like a Viking anymore. LOL
That's the extent of my college. I was fortunate to get a great job with only a high school diploma even though they usually required a BA.
yep.. working on my Masters and Law School.
I would like to go to college and later in university if I am not successful in my passion. Otherwise I will be a school drop out. I like studying and I'm good too but it's just not something I'm passionate about. I would like to get complete education.
I currently go to college.
I go to college because I want to be a preschool teacher and work with children. You need an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development to become one.
Thank you!

When my second girlfriend came back to me after a year of avoiding me, she'd gone to an art school over that period of time and I wanted to be on a similar level as her so, I looked into also going to the same art school but, they didn't have any art classes I hadn't already taken in high school so, I went to the local Jr. college to see if they had anything I hadn't already had. They DID have at least a slightly advanced silk screening class but it wouldn't start unto the fall semester and, this was the start of summer. I noticed they had a piano class so, being heavily into music, I decided to start with that for the summer. I kinda liked being in school, for a change! Most of my schooling years were spent running away or hiding from the school bullies and others that teased the fuck out of me!! I no longer had any of that at this school, mostly because those kids had grown the fuck up by then! I'd also met a few really cool people there and wanted to continue the friendships so, next semester, I went full time as a music major! I, quickly, became one of the most popular people on campus! I even won President of student government without doing ANY campaigning!!
I also ended up cross-registering to a couple major Universities in the area while there!
Nope, had to work full time since 14, and by the time I had the money I didn't have the time or I had other responsibilities.
There was basically no funding available for young people without collateral at the time I needed it. Too bad too, I graduated honor roll and tested highest in the city on the science standardized exams.
Instead of congratulations though I just got accused of cheating. Class prejudice is a sad, wasteful thing. They could only see me one way just because I did a little schoolyard gambling to keep myself fed and clothed.
I couldn't even get a small loan to get a welding ticket. Thought about killing myself or turning to crime, but I couldn't just leave my wife alone like that.
If you have the freedom to go I suggest you take the opportunity. Just don't major in something stupid.
yes, I did... for a little over a year but then I quit
I went to college "just because it was the next step" so I really didn't want to go, at least not at the time and not in the region nor field available to me at the time
so it was not a good idea to try it when I was not really committed to it... but hey, at least I found something else I really wanted to be doing instead... lol
I would have surely NOT liked to be stuck at a career and job I didn't really want to be doing for years and years to come
Well I go to one... but i have always wondered why do we all go to college..
I mean so we need college to have success?
When we can learn those skills practically
Thankfully, my original country does not have U. S. style colleges.
I had been tempted to go to university, but figured that they are too much ''establishment'' for my taste.
So I chose a vocational college, qualified for my targeted profession...
... and lived happily ever after :)
Yes. Because I had hope that my dream job would be worth it. Heh... being young and stupid is a great adventure.
Nah I didn't. I chose to become a stay at home mom instead. Which I'm happier with so glad I never went to college.
I don’t plan on going as my boyfriend is finishing uni now n I want to be there 4him. I may go at some point.
I did and it was because I wanted to. Best four years of my life!
I did University via the Air Force and also Open University for some distance learning degree.
Yes, because I wanted to and I have a good education because of it. College is not for everyone. We still need skilled labor and other jobs that don't require a college education.
Went to a Tech School for diesel mechanic and made a good paycheck without having to pay off a student loan!
I now have a good pension and retired at age sixty!
I don't because first I don't have money, second the thing which I like can be done online by courses and resources.
Yes i did coz i didn't wanted anybody to call me illiterate

Yes, a lot of it. I have a doctoral degree and I totally enjoyed my many college years. My degree and professional training have allowed me to make a decent living for a long time.
