I am looking for a new job, my current employer that I have worked for two years knows, wrote me a good letter of recommendation. However, I asked if it was okay to add him as a reference when the new job asks for references, and he said he would be happy to but to not give them his number, give him his email. He does check his emails daily and it's hard to get a hold of him by the phone. Is it okay to just give a references email not there number?

Yes, it was for me in a new hire as long as supporting docs match email reply

Email is fine/better. I wouldn't want HR goblins bothering me on the phone either.

If he insisted on giving the e-mail then it should be okay.
Yea, his email should be good.
