Why would a coworker change his way of adddresding me and remove formalities while texting me in email?

I mean he used to email me in a formal way using (dear… , regards..) but suddenly he emailed me with Hi…and no regards.. only his name.

Depending on how long he knows you or how long you worked together, he thinks that by now, formal salutation is no longer required.

It is a lack of courtesy mainly in view of the fact that you probably have never given him the OK to change the way he addresses you.

If he is older than you, he may think that you owe him respect and that he is entitled to use more familiar ways with you. Be cautious because changing from a formal to a less formal way of addressing you may be as sign that he believes he is your superior or that he does no longer value you as an equal person.
