Anyone else working their asses off?
Are you being worked to death?
Anyone else working their asses off?
I wouldn't say I'm being work to death personally, certainly not in the same way your job sounds but 12 hour shifts at the hospital can be rough sometimes. When I am there now I work day shift, and it can be tiring with everything going on, hanging IVs, giving meds, admitting patients to the floor, dealing with rapid responses etc, it can be a lot standing, walking and not much sitting which is what makes it tiring. When I worked night shift it was worse even though it was technically less busy. We had a higher patient load and immobile patients had to be turned regurlarly to prevent pressure sores. At night there are less nurse aids to help so there were times I experienced minor back, neck and shoulder strain, from turning and lifting patients. Luckily no serious injuries for me although one of my collegues hurt his back helping a heavier patient and was out for 6 weeks on medical leave. 12 hour nights were the worst for having a normal life during the day especially if they weren't scheduled in a group. I used purposely ask for stretch of 4 nights in a row of 12hour nights rather than have them broken up during the week, so I could reduce the amount of times I was changing my sleep cycle, but that became to be too exhausting after a year so now I stick to day shift.
Im being worked to death but more due to life circumstances has me worn out. I had a 7hr morning job a family member in a hospital/rehab to visit and bring a meal to run home to kids cooking cleaning homework and then run to a 2nd pm job 4-5 hrs. Home sleep and do it again. Now I quit the 2nd job this week but Im playing catch up on everything That fell behind.
I understand what you mean by a job running you down I once worked for a factory where they were allowed to work us 30 days straight as long as the 31st day they gave us the day off. Then they would do it again for another 30 days. They worked us 8-12 hours a day. The paycheck was great but our mental states were not. I was in a lead position and by the 4th month accidents and mistakes were high.
Thank you for the MHO 😊
I do, but it's optional. Last summer, I worked 6 shifts in a row of 16 hours each, for a total of 96 hours for one week; more than most people work in two weeks. That month, I made more than 3X the base income for full time, due to all the overtime.

Now, I'm still working my butt off, but it's a mix of work and school. I'm doing FT work of 40+ hours a week, still working some of those 16 hour doubles, but also doing FT nursing school, both an ADN program simultaneously with a "fast track" BSN program. The estimate is about 15 hours/week attending classes, and another 15-20 hours per week working on reading, assignments, etc. I also do one 12 hour clinical (unpaid) shift as a nursing student each week at the local hospital.

Oh, and I do a short 4 hour shift each week as a volunteer at a local wildlife rescue center.

This may seem like a lot of bragging, it's just my life right now. I have kind of justified it to myself because of the COVID pandemic, social life hasn't really been a thing, so I have extra time on my hands, I might as well be productive. Make some money, get a better career through education/training. I plan to slow down a bit and be having 3 months/year vacation in about three years from now, for the rest of my work life. So it's a means to an end.
Amazon driver here.
people come and go every day.
Iv personally done 197 stops, another guy who runs my own neighborhood did 205 yesterday.
At a 1 delivery per 2 mins kind of pace. Most never take breaks.
We all just wanna go home, 17$ an hr isn't worth it. Add on we've no union.
Amazon plans for 10 hr days average. They intentionally made the job attritional to keep labor costs down and make people quit.
Few know we're contracted through smaller companies called delivery service providers that deliver for actual the Amazon. So no union. Many people myself included have come close to a mental breakdown because of the pace, and constant need to be , switched on,
I'm looking at owner operator for a cargo van.
I could lease one and pay monthly. Create an llc and be driving for myself. Some guys I hear a making 600_3,000$ a week. It's a gig job so there are loads to pick up everywhere and I'd get to pick if I want to drive more or less.
Get my hazardous material endorsement and get paid even more for complex jobs.
A cdl would be great to but I'd rather avoid driving a big rig and be beholden to a company for paying for it.

No, working a double-digit work day is a sign of being a sucker to me. Don't take that offensively, you can handle drudgery and whatnot a lot more than me but I don't want any part in that crap unless I have a gun to my head so to say.
I'm in the camp that says the average work day should be 4 hours and it's backed up by science actually.

Good luck with that. You must be an Uber-neuro surgeon that makes his own hours.
Well done.
I also work in Energy and we’ve had about 5 long time employees retire in the last month, with more planned. These people have decades of knowledge that can’t be replaced. We’ve shut down projects, we’re barely keeping production up and we’re not ready for a winter like last winter. We’re also doing far better than our competitors.
I don’t think people realize the gravity of the situation and how bad things are going to get,
I kind of am. Mental health care is very difficult to obtain, and I am up to my ass in patients who need it. That is financially good, and I love what I do, but the overload is rather remarkable.
I was for quite some time, the only relief I’m getting from it is being off a few weeks because of surgery I had to have done. My job is short handed also, overtime is a lot but gets me so exhausted in just 5 days
I am an attorney and I routinely work about 45 hours per week.
I put car in shop and two weeks later they have not started on it, I think most businesses are making same people do everything.
On top of my 40 hour a week job, im also cook, cleaner, tutor, personal shopper and chuffer. Im exhausted
@Subarugirl. What do you do for Subaru?
Product training
Your job and home life sound pretty typical, not excessive.
and I am still working my ass off
@Subarugirl. By female standards, yes.
I haven't met very many men who reach those standards either..
@Subarugirl. I guess it's your generation.
How many men do you know (apart from single fathers) who work full time take care of the grand majority of household and child duties?
Because if I remember correctly, my parents and my parents parents the men in the family didn’t do much at home beyond some lawn care when they got home. The women who also worked full time didn’t basically everything else…
Nope. I didn't come to this world to be exploited with labor. I take it easy.
Hell yes health care is just as bad.
But I recently cut down on my hours. I need peace of mind. The only time I'll do these extra hours is if I have a goal in mind such as paying off a debt. Other than that I'm telling them no for now on
Nope
They're racist they hate us black man.
