Would you work a job as a Diversity Hire?

Would you work a $50,000 a year, $24 an hour job (or higher than whatever you make right now) as a Diversity Hire hired merely for BS "diversity and inclusion" reasons, where you're seen as pointless and valueless to the company?

To be clear, you are not hired as a skilled and talented worker who happens to be a minority. You are a Diversity Hire; a pointless, useless, talented person only hired due to being female, a different race than everyone else, queer, handicapped, or attractive looking, and nothing else. You bring nothing of value to the company, and if anything, cause more problems than help. And all your coworkers know this.

The company is a good place to work, with good people, and they actually do valuable things for society. It wouldn't be an evil corporation that actually deserves to have it's money wasted.

Regardless of your actual job skills, you CANNOT contribute anything valuable to the company, and almost everyone else around you works harder, is more knowledgeable, contributes a lot to the company, and gets paid lower than you. You are merely there to avoid company lawsuits and woke idiots attacking the CEO.

SO YOU COULD BE A DIVERSITY HIRE?

I work a job as the only native English speaker here at my English academy, and every other teacher is Korean. Although I'm valuable and the one with a Masters in English, every other teacher is fluent in Korean, so have to do things like call parents or have parent meetings sometimes. I don't have to do that, as a non-Korean. And even with that, I sometimes feel guilty and like I'm not pulling my weight. I'm constantly offering to volunteer and help the other teachers with things, so I don't feel like the weak chain. And I don't think anyone else thinks of me like that here, but still.

So I can't imagine what it's like getting paid to be useless at a job. That is humiliating. Yet I know many people would do it.

I wouldn't do it sense I already know how it is to be on the other end and lose out on a promotion and not be hired due to them wanting to hire/promote someone that is NOT a White man. As usual, most of the time in the USA, "diversity" just means not a straight White man.
People I went to school with many years ago for corrections that performed significantly worse (I was the top student with honors) and I performed better than them on the written and physical exams for corrections officer positions, those people got hired instead.
I also got passed over for promotion at a former job where I was more experienced and more qualified than the person that got the promotion. I ended up being the one to teach her how to do the majority of the job because she didn't know what she was doing.

Having experienced that myself, no, I wouldn't take a position as a diversity hire. I believe people should be hired and promoted based on merit and/or seniority/loyalty to the company.

Personally, no. If my only job were to report for duty and look busy, I wouldn't last long. My conscience would kill me inside. If I cannot meaningfully contribute, I cannot enjoy it. ( If anything, I'm generally among the hardest of workers. My own bosses would tell me to relax or even take a few days' vacation.) So, this absolute reversal would be too much a shock to my system.

I would not work as a Diversity Hire, I'd rather do honest work like being a cashier, farmer, nurse, a maid, a writer, a cook, etc. But not a diversity worker at all. My religion encourages hard and honest work therefore if I had a job that does not fall under honest work then I just would not be staying true to my religion and I would not at all feel fulfilled. Especially if I had a job where I am just hiring people based on pointless things like their attractiveness 🙄 so no.

By Honest work I am referring to all the job types that have nothing to do with, modelling of any sorts, including social media influencing and all kinds of sex jobs, and jobs that have to do with sex.

if i only had the choice between being a diversity hire or being unemployed you bet your ass i'd rather spend my time in adult daycare.
i do however prefer to actually pull my weight & do a meaningful job. if i do something i want to do it 100% percent right. like even at my current part-time job that won't affect my future career and that i only have to pay my bills during uni, i am always the one who covers for others shifts, i'm the one who "trains" new staff members & i'm the one who takes complaints from costumers when someone else fucks up

I do not believe in looking at a person's race to decide if they should get into school or get a scholarship. I think that is evil.

You get the job, you get into the school, you get the scholarship because you have merit. You have skill to do the job, you have some experience to do the job, you are a good student, you've excelled scholastically in high school... etc.

We don't equal amounts of every look or race in the program therefore let's just go hire some to check the boxes... is crap.

I want the air traffic controller directing the planes that is QUALIFIED, I want the pilot that is QUALIFIED, I want the doctor operating on me that is QUALIFIED, I want the HVAC tech repairing units at my home that is QUALIFIED, I want employees that are QUALIFIED, I want a financial planner that is QUALIFIED... etc.

I don't give a sheeet if they are a man or woman or Asian or black or white, or Latino or gay... etc. What the hell does that have to do with anything... except to those with agendas to virtue signal or to make political points?

I absolutely have zero I do mean zero intersectional qualifications so there is almost nowhere in my life where I was or will ever be hired for “diversity” purposes.

I wonder at some point that a few companies will become so “diverse” that they will be forced to hire “token” straight white males…. seems comical but not impossible.

Anyway I have met minorities particularly straight minority men who secretly highly dislike diversity hiring.

Reason is they often legitimately smart/educated and when they get hired they think other people look at them as “tokens” and quietly underestimate qualification/intelligence. They want to their respect to be earned not “bestowed” through equity programs. Men (including minority men) understand what true respect is.

Personally no. I like having the satisfaction of knowing that I'm really good at. my job to the point where in less time than others in my position I'm making more $. I'm the "hot European girl" in the office but I make sure my skills are just as noticeable as my boobs (they are quite popular at work).

That said, if you're offered the job and it's financially beneficial to you, by all means take the job. It's not your fault the company is willing to throw their money at you for no reason.

I kind of already did, but it didn't take long for them to adapt and move me around to where I was better suited. I'm pretty sure the guy that hired me, hired me because there was zero women on his team and zero minorities and he thought I was hot.

He then got promoted and someone from the team took over and moved me to something that better suited me, so for that I am grateful. At the same time my job experience at the time was such that I was lucky to get any job.

Your premise that diversity hires are talentless and not valued is bigoted to the core. I work in a government agency that practices affirmative action. Hires are completely qualified for their positions. It’s just a conscious policy of avoiding implicit bias and making sure your workforce isn’t all white/all male. It’s creating fairness where it doesn’t always exist organically. Proclaiming that women and minorities have less talent and worth at face value says a lot about you. I’m not seeing what you claim in real world practice. My co-workers, regardless of gender or ethnicity, meet or exceed the qualifications for their jobs. Arguments like yours are thinly veiled exclamations of your own bigotry.

Honestly for 50k, that's a maybe. It wouldn't be bad for a first job since it's a decent earning and you're pretty much getting paid to be useless. It is less than what is paid on average in the US so I'm not sure (avg being like 60k-75k I think). I've seen and been presented similar opportunities, not only with jobs though, just because of my hispanic heritage and ⭐W o m a n ⭐ lol.
