A few months ago I recently started a new job role. I am well qualified and went to university and studied a masters degree. People sometimes ask me why I’m working at this particular job when I have a masters degree as I’m over qualified. However, my manager seems to point out whenever she can that I’m stupid and incompetent at my job.
Everyone at work I get on really well with and have positive working relationships with colleagues. Except my manager. She always points out all my mistakes and flaws and never says a nice thing about my work. When she was training me on the job, she kept pointing out that I was incompetent and couldn’t work my job. I was quite nervous in my training and maybe made a lot of mistakes. However went on live at one point to work with people after my training I felt anxious on a call and made a mistake and she face palmed me to suggest I was failing.
Now I’m on the real job, and she keeps saying things which make me doubt my performance. The other day I dealt with a safeguarding query and tried to do the best job I could. Instead she just said to me “I don’t want anymore disasters from you today” and then she proceeded to “joke” about me being stupid and making mistakes, which made me feel uncomfortable and bad about myself
The other day she called me dummy out of nowhere over the phone when I asked her a question, which took me by surprise, and then on a separate occasion she said to me “you aren’t as dumb as you seem”. Literally anytime I speak to her, she always has some put down to me or says something negative about the person I am, like “I know what you’re like you are a huge over-thinker” and if I upload my picture to a new one of myself she says “what are you like?” And also says to me “I know you didn’t handle that situation well with that customer, but it’s not your fault you seem to get bad luck here”
Why is my manager always trying to put me down and diminish my confidence?
