Do you feel sad when a work colleague you are close to leaves for another job or do you accept that as just life and eventually move on?

I may feel sad If they were someone I enjoyed working with, but that’s a part of life, and I’m not going to mope or cry about it.

Yeah, I only posted this because I feel like my supervisor is being a little too much with you have to come and visit! They aren’t celebrities and it’s not they did this amazing, phenomenal job. I just find it kind of strange. I agree it’s life and you move on. If people truly want to reach out and keep in touch. Instead of posting everything on social media waiting for a reply or like. People should pick up the phone and call and say “hey how’s it going”. That’s what I would do. But if it’s someone I worked with for a year I probably won’t care that much if a year goes by and that’s that.

You do both. You feel sad for yourself... and the company, and feel good for the individual that they are doing something they believe is better.

Trust me I hardly feel sad for the company lol. I’m not sad. I have my own priorities. I don’t expect the company or others to feel “sad” I’m leaving. If people were genuinely “sad” I was leaving I would be surprised and keep in touch with them if that were the case.

@pass_the_celery98 Your colleagues usually feel sad for the company because the company is ;losing a productive employee. Usually, people that worked with you would feel sad you are going.

You can be sad and still accept it and move on. Sadness is an emotion that is normal to feel.

I’m actually not sad, I’m kind of annoyed that my supervisor is being a little too much with them leaving. I work hard for the department I work in and don’t get as much recognition. I’m only getting two shifts a wk at my job. Currently I am doing my grad studies, dealing with a legal case, my dads in the hospital, got stuff to do in the house to help my mom, it’s a lot. So end of the day I’m annoyed by my job but I will leave that place eventually. I understand no job is perfect but when it comes to salary and steady work, yeah I care a lot and I’m sure majority of others do as well.

You mean you don't try to still visit with them outside of work? It was sad when a male colleague of mine left, as we always spent the mornings before work hanging out, but as he's a guy it's a bit hard to ask to get together outside of work still

In my former job, yes I would feel a bit sad if a coworker left.
