Anybody here ever been involved with frats? What’s the actual benefit of being a “brother”? Why do they all seem the exact same? Opinions on frats?

Yeah so I’m not gonna lie, when I first entered college I had no intention of ever hanging around frat guys and my impression of them was actually genuinely negative.

I thought they were just a bunch of these annoying “tough guys” with big egos that just want to get drunk all the time and haze, harass and intimidate people and sleep around and fck women.

But what I’ve found is that they don’t actually tend to be that way. As it stands already, I’ve gone to events from 4 different frat houses hosting them.

The guys were all genuinely friendly and super down to earth and chill. And they never pressured me to do anything I was uncomfortable with. And I didn’t really see any of them hazing a single person either. It was all just chill out, grill some burgers, have a beer, and let’s starting talking.

But what I still don’t understand is how I am suppossed to commit to joining a frat house if they all seem the exact same?

And what the hell is the benefit of being a brother anyway?

I can still go to all their events whenever I want even as a non-member.

All joining does is give you a pat on the back from what I can tell. They give you their merch but that’s really it.

And then of course you have to do all this other shit on the side like pay membership dues, and help the house fundraise their events.

Its just a lot more work outside of class as a college student. Not to mention you also have to help clean all the shit up after people make a mess.

And of course when you’re around that many other guys constantly at the house, wouldn’t it make it harder to study and keep up in school?
