That’s how I would’ve responded, but if they missed you by one day then I wouldn’t go into all this detail.

You call them back and apologize saying you missed their call, and want to inquire if the position is still available. That's it.

Don't make up excuses or tell them why you missed the call, just keep it to the point and reassure them that if it's still available, you want the job.

If it was a wk ago an it may be a potential job, it's gone but to stay positive about this , call them back and apologize you missed the call and ask if the position is still open and go from there.
