How do internships work?

I’m in my last semester and have to do an internship. I live out of state and the college I’m attending is 100% online and several states away. I have an internship and the prof just wants me to give them a form to fill out on what my task are and what I would be doing plus their signature and at the end of the semester they will do an evaluation. I was told the only thing the company im interning for have to do is sign the form and do the evaluation and that’s it. I’m just wondering how will I be supervised and how will they know I completed the hours.

The argument is that you are giving up your time in exchange for gaining valuable experience, experience in this field which is so rewarding that they can't afford to pay you for your time..
