Imagine someone went to some really low tier basic university for their bachelor’s degree but did a graduate degree at a place like Stanford or Harvard. Would their first degree matter less?
The difference is in networking and name recognition. At top tier schools you make connections that can carry you through your entire life if you work it properly. The most prestigious schools have powerful alumni networks that work to help each other.
Once you have a graduate degree, it matters a lot less or becomes totally irrelevant where you got your bachelor's degree from. And as far as the graduate degree goes, the quality of the department is often as important as the school.

What you major in is more important than what college you went to. If you major in a STEM subject or science it is better than majoring in gender studies.
It does not matter all most jobs want is the degree, not how much you paid for it.
